Series “Intimités”: An Exploration of the Matter and the Soul
The series “Intimacies” highlights sculptures, with curly silhouettes that seem to blend harmoniously in their material. Among these works, this sculpture of 22 cm in height.
NERIAGE Technique
This sculpture uses the Chinese technique of neriage. This process involves mixing clays of different colours, including brown earth and white earth, to create a unique marbled pattern. This choice of materials allows to play on the contrasts and natural harmonies and offers a visual richness that attracts the attention of the viewer.
Firing process
After being carefully modelled, the sculpture is first fired at 1000°C. This step solidifies and fixes its delicate shapes and marbled motifs. Then, the piece is covered with a transparent glaze and goes through a second cooking.
Expression of Vulnerability
This sculpture expresses a sense of vulnerability and protection. The curled figure seems to seek refuge in its own material. This suggests a deep introspection and a search for comfort in a sometimes hostile world.
Symbolism and Reflection
The technique of NERIAGE and enamel finish plays a key role in this expression, symbolizing the different strata and complexities of human experience.
Invitation to Contemplation
The result is an artwork that captures the eye with its visual beauty, but also encourages deeper reflection on human intimacy, protection and fragility. Every detail, from the marbled pattern to the reflections of the glaze, contributes to creating a piece that is both an object of contemplation and an invitation to explore the depths of the human soul.
This sculpture is made by “contorsion” of a mixture of brown and white clay.
